The University of Calabar has suspended a student from the Department of Environmental Education Faculty of Science Education, University of Calabar Ms. Udey Margret over misappropriation of funds worth 1,800,000 Naira that was meant to be distributed to council members.
According to investigations, Ms. Margret Udey said the money as applied was meant for hall chair leaders to conduct hostel events which is popularly known as HALL DAY.
As the money was released and shared for it aim and most halls have carried out the Hall Day celebrations, a letter was tendered to Udey stating that she provide the format of cash disbursement, which later ended in her suspension.
The former SUG President Comr. Blessing Alims said that the money was not for event organizing in the halls but for the welfare of hostels. Meanwhile, Ms. Margret said that the cash was not for welfare as of the letter she wrote which was received by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi.
Going further, the letter did not mention when she will be called back but stated,
“Sequel to the above, your case has been forwarded to Senate Students’ Disciplinary Committee for further investigation. Also note that you are not to be seen around the university during the period of your suspension except on invitations to appear before the Senate disciplinary committee.”
