A call for urgent action and transformative change on a critical artery of development
By Hon Godwin Thomas Eko
The Assiga–Ekori Road is more than just a stretch of tar connecting two communities in Yakurr Local Government Area. It is a lifeline for farmers, traders, students, and families whose daily movement depends on its reliability. Yet, over the years, this once-vibrant route has fallen into a state of neglect, with potholes, erosion, and poor drainage making journeys slow, dangerous, and costly.
This situation has had far-reaching effects on the local economy. Agricultural produce from Assiga, Ekori, and neighbouring villages often fails to reach urban markets on time. Transport fares have increased, emergency response is hampered, and schoolchildren face long, uncomfortable commutes. What should be a road of opportunity has instead become a road of frustration.
Now is the time for redemption. We call on the relevant authorities — from local government to state and federal agencies — to treat the Assiga–Ekori Road as a priority infrastructure project. Timely rehabilitation and expansion will not only restore mobility but also spur development, attract investment, and rekindle public confidence in governance.

As the people of Yakurr look forward to a brighter future, the Assiga–Ekori Road can become a symbol of renewed commitment to service delivery and equity. Redeeming this road is not just about asphalt and concrete; it is about restoring dignity, safety, and prosperity to the thousands who rely on it every day.
